Stable homes

What actions would you take to improve stability and security for private renters?

The healthy homes initiative was meant to address these issues, I am dissapointed to hear this is failing and I can confirm I will advocate for change. I agree, renters should not be in fear of repercussions from landlords. Property inspection carried out by council qualified building surveyors for rentals between tenancies.

How will you ensure all council tenants have security of tenure?

Regular welfare checks on tenants

What steps will you take to end homelessness in Auckland?

I will collaborate with community support groups to ensure wellness checks

Meaningful enforcement

If elected, would you take steps to tackle persistent bad landlords who do not meet their obligations to renters in your area? If so, what?

Yes

What do you think Council should do to address power imbalance between landlords and tenants? If nothing, why?

Unfortunately this is under the jurisdiction of the tenancy tribunal.

Fair rent

Would you advocate for additional powers or resources from Central Government to address the housing crisis (such as legislating for Rent Control), if so what and how?

I will need to discuss this with newly elected members

What do you think are the main reasons rents in Auckland are increasing? How would you ensure rents in Auckland are affordable?

Rents are tied to house prices, rental prices are dictated by cost to owners.

Safe and healthy homes

What actions (in contrast to or in conjunction with our Healthy Homes Commitment) would you take to improve the quality of private rental housing in your ward and in your city?

Tenancy tribunal to contact council for property inspection.

Anything else you want to share?

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. As previously stated a Property inspection carried out by council qualified building surveyors for rentals between tenancies.
