Renters United Submission on the Residential Tenancies (Registration of Boarding House Landlords) Amendment Bill

Today Renters United submitted to the Social Services and Community select committee in support of the Renters United Submission on the Residential Tenancies (Registration of Boarding House Landlords) Amendment Bill. Renters United are firm believers in the need to increase the level of professionalism in the rental market. For too long, renters have been subject to power imbalances, meaning unprofessional landlords can take advantage of renters’ need for a home. Nowhere is this more true than for boarding houses, where tenancies are less secure and the renters are often in more precarious situations.

This is a real opportunity for the Government to take action to reign in bad landlords, and make a positive difference for Renters in Aotearoa. We look forward to the passing of this bill.
